After winning SME Business of the Year in 2010, Stores Direct are proud to return to the 2011 Examiner Business Awards as sponsor of the Green Award. Once again the Huddersfield Daily Examiner celebrates the success of local businesses with 12 awards in categories including e-commerce, new businesses, small and medium enterprises, innovation, environmental action and community involvement.
The Green Award recognises outstanding environmental action by businesses, whether through implementing green policies in the workplace or providing products or services which make a positive contribution to the environment. The University of Huddersfield won this award in 2010 for a combination of environmental actions including management of carbon emissions, embedding green issues into the core curriculum, recycling and green purchasing. The shortlist for the 2011 Green Award includes Kirkwood Hospice, Hanson Music and Holmfirth Vineyard.
The judging panel includes Jeremy Garside, managing partner of law firm Chadwick Lawrence; Bob Cryan, vice-chancellor of Huddersfield University; Adrian Lythgo, chief executive of Kirklees Council; and Harry Zientek, Examiner business correspondent. The awards ceremony takes place on 3rd November at the Galpharm Stadium, and will be hosted by Harry Gration of BBC Look North.
