Fireplace Surround Rebate

Understanding the fireplace rebate you require is essential in ensuring your fireplace/fire will fit your required application. The dimension you need to work out is the depth needed to fully recess you fire against your flat wall or in your chimney recess. If the fireplace is being fitted against a flat wall then the full depth of the fire needs to be recessed within the fire surround. However, if the fire surround is being fitted against a chimney then the depth of the fire can be recessed within the cavity of the chimney.

Diagram of fireplace rebate

The rebate is the distance from the back of the wall to the front of the back panel. Deeper rebates allow the back panel to be brought forward, creating a void between the panel and the wall. Deep rebates are popular where inset electric fires, or flueless gas fires are to be installed onto flat walls.

To work out the fire recess, you subtract the rebate by 20mm to accommodate the thickness of the panel. Therefore 100mm rebate gives you 80mm fire recess depth (100mm - 20mm for the back panel).

The Esse 525 Flueless Gas Stove brings the extraordinary benefits of catalytic technology to contemporary living spaces. The Esse 525 does not require a flue giving you the freedom to locate it virtually anywhere.

The Esse 525 flueless gas stove uses the latest catalytic technology to make sure all burnt gas emissions are 'scrubbed' clean and leave the stove as warm clean air. Catalytic technology also offers 100% efficiency. No energy is wasted up a chimney, so all the heat generated warms your room which in turn lowers running costs.

A catalytic converter is not only environmentally friendly, it can actually clean the air it uses. The high temperature catalytic process helps to remove odours in the home and neutralise airborne particles linked to asthma and allergies such as dust mites, creating a cleaner, healthier home environment.

Gas Types

  • Natural Gas

    Natural Gas

Natural gas (Piped gas) is readily available in most towns in the UK. The fuel is cheap and will be added to your normal gas bill. Natural gas requires no storage and is a very clean fuel to use. The flame effects are very realistic.
  • LPG Gas

    LPG (Bottled Gas)

If using your appliance primarily as a focal point (you already have central heating), LPG is very effective. Can be supplied in very remote areas or where access is difficult. The flame effects are very realistic. LPG is the most expensive gas to use on a cost per minute basis. Bottles or a tank must be stored safely and refilled regulary.
